Tawsha's Summer Binder

Idea #1:  Tawsha's preschool teacher gave her the most fun and easy summer binder.  I wanted to share some of these ideas with you.

    A:  Fishing Pond.

Cut a 4" X 6" pond and laminate.  make 10 small fish and write the numbers 1-10 on their back sides, attach a magnate to the front side.  Make a fishing rod by duck taping a string to a dowel and putting a paperclip on the other end.

To play.  Have the player go fishing.  Use the fish for number recognition.  For older players have them catch 2 fish and add or subtract them.

    B: "U" in the Middle.

Make a set of alphabet cards.  Make a master of "u" in between two other card size squares.  Draw a picture square on top of row of squares.  Make a set of 3 letter picture cards.

To play.  Have the child sound out and try to spell the words.

*Tawnya's adaptation:  I am going to do this for all the vowels.  Robert has helped me to create a list.  Call if you want it.

    C: Day at the Zoo.

Make a simple game board on two pages with zoo animals to decorate it.  Have an alligator snap and take two spaces back and get a hug from a panda bear to go forward two spaces.  The dice is a small square and has 1, 2, 0 (Roll again), Zz for moving to a matching space and  Zebra stripes for moving the same way.  The game pieces are 1/2" eraser animals.  I think Tawsha's teacher found most of the supplies at a teaching supply store.

    D: Math Story Boards:

Make one page pictures for the children to embellish with candies to do math.  The first pic. is raisin cookies (my girls will be changing that to chocolate chip)  The second pic. is fruit trees (Skittles)

To play:  Have the child make up a realistic story.  Like Mom baked some cookies and the first on had only one raisin.  I didn't want that one....The sixth on had six raisins.  That is the one I chose because it had the most raisins.

They could add together the amount of fruit on the tree.  Come on use your imagination.

There were also several laminated pages for practicing writing names, numbers and shapes.  Make sure you know which type of writing they will be learning.  A traditional or the pre-cursive.
