My Favorite Things to Do With Oils My favorite Oils: Chamomile: Sedative, Stress-reducer, soothes skin. Clary Sage: Calms nerves, fights infections, and rejuvenates skin and hair. Avoid when pregnant! Eucalyptus: Fights Bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Fights colds and flu. Geranium: Relieves pain, fights infection. Stimulates new cell growth. Avoid if Hypoglycemia! Lavender: Lifts depression, calms nerves, fights infection, reduces inflammation, lowers blood pressure. Lemon: Fights infection, cools fever, softens skin, and stimulates immune system. Orange: Fights infection, reduces inflammation, aids digestion, cools fevers, calms nerves, and diminishes depression. Palmarosa: Fights infection, cools fever, speed wound healing. (Note: There are hundreds more and I have tried tons more but you will find you favorite oils and keep returning to them.) Light an unscented candle: Once there is melted wax drop one or two drops of you favorite oil into the melted wax. Enjoy the immediate smell. This is a great way to save on candles and get a huge variety of smells. Just make sure the oil land in the melted wax and not the flame. The oils are flammable. Oils to Avoid While Pregnant: Here is a list of SOME of the oils that should be avoided while you are pregnant: Basil, Camphor, Cedarwood, Clarysage, Clove, Cinnamon, Hyssop, Juniper, Marjoram, Myrrh, Sage, Thyme, Fennel, Peppermint, Rosemary. THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LIST! I love to take baths: I have a garden tub. I take about 20 drops of essential oils to get a good bath going. When my kids were little I use to give them calming baths at night. If you do this with chamomile just make sure you half or use a quarter of what you would consider using on an adult. Children are very receptive to essential oils. If you have a normal every day headache or a stress headache: Get a bowl of cold ice water and a clean wash cloth. Add 3 to 5 drops of peppermint oil to the water. Soak your cloth in the water and ring it out. Place on fore head avoiding the eyes. When you have warmed up the cloth soak it again and rest it on your fore head again. If this doesn’t relax enough for the headache to go away it is time to go to the medicine cupboard. Cotton balls: with essential oils can be tucked just about anywhere. However if you are putting them in your car avoid oils that have a tendency to put you to sleep. Opt for Lemon or Peppermint that might invigorate and keep you alert. Foot Soaks: can be extremely relaxing especially if you stood all day in the kitchen. Get a big bowl or basin. If you can fit both feet in great if not do one at a time. Add some marble at the bottom. They will add the massage. Fill the bowl with warm water. Add Sea salt or Epson Salt and 5 to 10 drops of a relaxing blend of essential oils. Roll your feet back and forth over the marble and relax for 15 to 20 minutes. To see a mapping of the foot, click here: Foot Map I haven’t tried this yet but the next time I want to give a friend a gift I want to Scent a book by placing the book in a plastic zip bag and adding a few cotton balls that have essential oils in them. Zipping the bag shut for 2 weeks. ( I read about it in a book called The Fragrant Year by Clare Louise Hunt.) Places I Shop: www.essentialoil.com This is where I buy my oils from. They have the quality and pricing I am most comfortable with. Please note that you need to buy $50.00 after all discounts and this includes a 10% internet discount if you order online. You can order online, by phone or fax or mail. You will find companies that are willing to sell for less but if you read their site more carefully you might find some little thing that might make you wonder about how they get their oils. You need to feel comfortable with your supplies. These oils are going into your body, whether it is by breathing or being soaked in through your skin. Of course you can pay a lot more. I have gone to the Chandler Fashion mall and gotten some Tea Tree oil when I was out. I paid for the rent on their space that month. I have gotten some at High Health and GNC also. They were okay. Check around. www.mountainroseherbs.com This is where I buy my French Green Clay, Sea Salts, Orris Root and other bulk herbs. I wouldn’t buy Bulk Grains for heating pads there though. They do have dried lavender and chamomile too. You can order by phone, fax, mail or online.
